its a significant change Agalloch went through from their first demo From Which of This Oak until masterpieces such as Pale Folklore and The Mantle. the stiff and severe sound of Which of This Oak is not similar at all to their latest creations. tracks like The Wilderness and As Embers Dress the Sky remind in some way "kneel to the cross" but the demo does not sound like Agalloch at all, perhaps that is better. the slightly vague guitar and the "rough" vocals (the Agalloch Trademark for now) complete the album's unique sound and the only one of its kind As Embers Dress the Sky's soft female vocals finalize the irreplaceable Agalloch sound. a definite 10.
