Specfic atmosphere of musical madnes makes me to like this album. Growling mixed with high vocals & screams, agressive guitars and powerful percusion composed with weird sounds in the background, many changes of style and speed make this album very interesting. Never thought that such a good band can be found in England.

vocals are stooooopid and lame, dumb lyrics this ones for the whit trash rejects that like to act like bad asses---
fans are similar to rap fans, very dumb and violent(funny how those 2 always go hand in hand)

Cheap and not so original....A mixture of brutality, hate, devil worshiping and mediocre music....A tipical semi - black metal production

Being as this band is local to me I have had the pleasure of seeing them live a few times and talk to some of them one on one. Now believe me they eat, breathe and shit this evil stuff and it's fucking scary. I hated "Rape of the Bastard Nazarene" at first, I thought it was contrived, cheap and a poorly executed Cradle of Filth rip-off (as if Cradle of Filth aren't bad enough). However, in the Summer of 2001 Terrorizer featured a Cd-Rom video of the song "Horns of Baphomet" on their covermount Cd and it totally blew me away. How wrong was I about Akercocke. This band are amazing, they can bring an uneasy atmosphere of unsettling evil to a person that will send shivers down your spine. The vocals on "Goat of Mendes" are something special. Jason Mendonca can go from haunting operatics, to blood-curdling black metal screams, to some of the most low ultra-guttural vocals I have heard for a long while. This album marries blast-beats, grind and atmospherics perfectly. A must for black and death metal fans alike.

It's quite a nice album, with A SKIN FOR DANCING IN as the best song on it, with some clean vocals. They combine black metal with death metal very good and that's why i love this album. Only a little bit dissapointed by the sound sometimes and the enhanced video (sooo cheap, just stupid!!). But it's much better then RAPE OF THE BASTARD NAZARENE. Just listen to it if you are a black metal fan.

Nice album!!, better than their first one from 1999.
Especially the song A SKIN FOR DANCING IN is a good song, with some clear nice vocals.
Drumwork is good and guitars are sometimes a little crappy.
Overall a descent album.8/10.

This is definitely an interesting listen. This is what i would consider Avante-Garde death/black metal because it really is way out in outer space. "A Skin For Dancing In" is the highlight of the cd... the whole thing is extremely and powerfully hateful in a very strange way, almost impossible to explain.
The enhanced video track sucks big time.. real stupid and a waste of time by them to make it if you ask me. But you certainly are not wasting your money by getting this cd.
8/10

Well where to start. This is without a doubt one of the most evil sounding bands ive ever heard (Alongside Abruptum). The drum work is amazing, the keyboards are put to good use and the vocals switch from black to death metal style effortlessly. If your a fan of brutal technical metal give it a shot. You wont be dissapointed.

This is another success coming from akercocke better than the last album production is better although still not perfect. It's a good blend of Black and Death metal and they still make it sound Grim using their Satanic Influence.

man.. these guys suck! But it's listenable, and even enjoyable sometimes, but most times, it's just new wave black metal crap.

As an album, Goat of Mendes is more cohesive than Akercocke's other releases. They had yet to truly splinter, and were still just augmenting their extreme metal with the few keyboard and clean vocal experiments that appear here, which makes a more solid and consistent listen, though one with less highlights than the next two. A solid release with some excellent tracks (like a Skin for Dancing in, and Horns of Baphomet). Obviously of interest to fans of the band, but also worth checking out for anyone else who likes their death metal blackened and interesting.

Beneath the generic satanic lyrics/image, the music this band puts out is astoundingly complicated. There are so many riffs in some of these songs it is insane. The song writing quality is consistently good for the entire album. I am very surprised at some of the reviews they have received; it is my opinion that they are one of the most original metal bands of the decade.
