Fucking great and epic. More guitars and less pompous synths than previous (Battle magic, Power Cosmic - I had heard). Obsidian Crown Unbound is masterpiece song with fast whirling riffs. Here is couple of orchestrations for new Conan movie but they are good too. I think in this record Sagoths have made their best effort until now. Songwriting is better, and cheese factor lower than before. Cd booklet is also fun with maps etc.

From the opening song, we know that Bal-sagoth have returned with another classic release, they perform effortlessley displaying their virtuosity of their instruments.

They take us on a journey through time and space, displaying their sheer technical ability whilst retaining the true black metal element from where they emerged, as the album progresses we are dragged deeper into their world and live it with them, hearing every little sublety as they make super smooth transitions between each section of the song.

Songs such as "The fallen kingdoms of the abyssal plain", which is instumental convey images of ancient civilisations and great battles, reminding us of a film score, then straight into "shackled to the trilithon of kotulu" which reminds us of why we listened to Bal-sagoth in the first place, blast beat drumming and technical guitar playing brought together with a fantastic use of synths and Byron displaying a complete mastery of vocal dexterity.

As the album ends we find ourselves satisfied, who else in extreme music today can touch this band, many have tried, some have got close but none have delivered in quite the same way as the mighty Bal-Sagoth, full fucking stop!!!!!
