It sounds better than Midian but still not as good as their recent-recent shit! The Sisters of Mercy cover isn't bad along with their old debut songs but it's still hasn't got the BITE as well as it used to. Not really worth getting if you are a mainstream black metal fan or unless your a real Cradle of Filth fan like me.

Bitter Suites to Succubi defenitely has more melody and substance than the other Filth records. Songs like "Suicide and Other Comforts" and "Scorched Earth Erotica" show a more tender side of Filth. Many have labeled Cradle of Filth as sellouts and some have outcasted them from the entire black metal genre. Despite the melody, this album contains the agressiveness that can be heard on VEmpire or Dusk and her Embrace. Basically, Bitter Suites has a sound and style very similar to Midian's with an extra and new twist. This album is my favorite Cradle of Filth album.

Dusk and Her Embrace, The Principle, Cruelty and the Beast, and ESPECIALLY Vempire. Only one word comes to mind when you think of these...masterpiece. But then we have Bitter Suites to Succubi... UTTER SHIT! There are sooooo many things wrong with this "album" that I don't know where to begin. Probably the biggest problem is the fact that it sounds nothing like old CoF, and more like a watered down Dimmu Borgir. The artistic vision of Vempire and the like is completely gone. The guitar part is almost nonexistant, as it is completely overshadowed with repetitive, bland keyboard organ and other Rob Zombie (laughs) "spooky" melodies. Since Nicholas left, of course, the drumming has been a mere shadow of its former glory, as it is here. Songs like "Nocturnal Supremecy" and "Dusk..." proved that CoF used to have the best drumming in the whole metal genre, but now its een reduced to fucking punk drumming and patched up with misplaced double bass. The vocals sound just as shitty as they always have since Cradle to Enslave; after Cruelty, the raspiness and perfect dynamics of Dani's voice completely evaporated. From then on, he simply screams at a monotone level, and when he tries to go high, it turns into an annoying, ear-shattering squeak. Also, the female vocals that made CoF so perfectly harmonious in the past are sparse and hardly measure up. The lyric-writing has suffered as well here. Songs like "Lustmord and Wargasm" and "Queen of Winter Throned" demonstrated Dani's mastery of English was equal to that of Poe and Shakespeare, with numerous mythological references and obscure vocabulary, all rhymed in perfect poetry. With Bitter Suites, the references are not nearly as plentiful, but the vocabulary is still pretty impressive, but the lyrics as a whole just don't compare. And finally, I'd like to point out that black metal is not supposed to have repetetive chorus parts... period. Overall, this album is just another example of how all bands, except those that make goregrind and other simplistic death metal, become less artistic over time, and all eventually are called sell-outs. I just hope that CoF realizes that they are doing just the same and fixes it before their next cd. Cradle was the best death/black metal band ever, in my opinion, and its sad to see them quitting on their unique style.

Cradle of Filth - Bitter Suites to Succubi
Released on AbraCadaver 2001.

Well well. Cradle of Filth spitted one mixed shit EP (or is this a complete album?) out and what have they here? Not so decent new songs mixed with one ugly 80's cover and three revamped tracks from the debyt "The Principle of Evil Made Flesh" including "Summer Dying Fast", "The Principle of Evil Made Flesh" and a sequel to "The Black Goddess Rises" labelled "The Black Goddess Rises II - Ebon Nemesis".

Ugly names (Lycanthroat, Nordic Thunder Cracks) and ugly songs. Though it's better than 'Midian', because the sounds are improved a lot. The bass drum kicks are too shattering but (thank god!) the guitars are turned a little bit feebler. I don't want to explain the whole f..king songs what they are, so I'll just give you the tracklist and grades following:

1. Sin Deep My Wicked Angel 7
2. All Hope in Eclipse 7½
3. Born in a Burian Gown 7
4. Summer Dying Fast 10-
5. No Time to Cry 5
6. The Principle of Evil Made Flesh 8
7. Suicide and Other Comforts 8-
8. Dinner at Deviant's Palace 7
9. The Black Goddess Rises II 8
10. Scorched Earth Erotica 8+

You can see that my favorite song is clearly "Summer Dying Fast", because it has the greatest mood ever captured in the whole Cradle of Filth discography. Cover is just pure shit and the whole CD is greatly below average. So... I'll just have to say that when Nicholas was gone, the whole music just went softer and shittier. "Midian" was a sellout, because the mainstream -songs, and the fury that was captured in every other records was completely gone. Just like here. ..by the way, Adrian is a fucker who cares only about Death & attitude metal. F..kface. ..can't even play drums...

Music - 74
Lyrics - 85
Playing - 75
Vocalwork - 85
Production - 70

Overall - 78 out of 100

Most people don't like this album, but I think is great. It sounds 100% cradle but a bit faster and agressive. Is one the best cradle of filth albums. Buy it, i'll recommend.

I really don't know why people dislike this album so much. Is it because the guitars are somewhat dimmed therefore the album is not as noisy as previous releases? Or is it because it's not agressive all the time?
Personally I like this albmu, it has a great melodic feel to it, and the vocals, both by Dani and by Sarah are perfect.
The remakes of the old songs drasticly improved the old ones by adding the new great atmosphere of this cd to them with improved sound and production.
The new tracks aren't the standing out songs for me , but they are definetly good, cool enough lyrics and hey, those are like the theme songs of this cd, being the new material and all.
No Time To Cry is one of the best cover songs I ever heard.
Martin's work on the instrumentals is amazing as usual.
And once you've done with the cd, there's a miniprogram in it just waiting for you to put the cd into your computer, where you'll get to see the great artwork of this cd in full screen, and watch a preview of Cradle of Fear and the Born In A Burial Gown video.
Fun stuff...

Shit, pure shit this when i started to hate Cradle of Filth i mean the songs are boring as shit. Gian was getting lazy and thank god he left the band. He's good at guitars but just getting sick of Cradle of Filth. But I turned this album off as soon as the third song ended this album was so bad. the_fated_hour is very right about the album!

This was the first CoF album I got and therefore it does have a place in my heart. It isn't Vempire, and it has been bettered by Damnation and a Day, but it is something special. The remakes are SUBSTANCIALLY better than the originals, especially Summer Dying Fast; No Time To Cry is a very good cover and the original tracks are great, especially Suicide and Other Comforts, which is hauntingly beautiful and guaranteed to make your heart ache with those gorgeous lyrics of lost Love.

8.5/10

This album was made just a bit more like mini-cd, 'cause there are no really much new songs in it.
"Sin deep my wicked angel" is a typical Cradle of filth-intro with sound effects and haunting keyboards. The first "real" song "All hope in eclipse" is a great example of today's musical directions by Cradle of filth. This song is a new one, just like "Born in a burial gown","Suicide and other comforts" and "Scorched earth erotica" Typical filth and I like them. There are couple of re-recordings from their debut-album "Principle of evil made flesh" and they are formed as a today's COF-style. Cd includes also Sisters of mercy-cover "No time to cry" and a limited video-version. Not the best Cradle of filth album, but sure worth of publishing.

the only reason why i ever liked this album is because i used to be a hardcore CoF fan. When Enslave came out i was just like okay...it's only an EP. when Midian came out i knew it was not CoF. But then again, i liked Midian because i was a big CoF fan. Now, when Bitter Suites came out in 2001 i got it. The biggest disappointment, in everything. The artwork is stupid, Nick was gone, Gian didn't do anything special, and Paul, who is legendary in CoF, didn't do anything good either. I guess whoever was in charge made Gian and Paul thier bitches and told them exactly what to do. I do like Suicide and Other Comforts, probably the only good song they made, Black Goddess II is okay, i like the older one better, TPoEMF-SUCKSS! they shouldn;t of bothered fucking with it. Summer Dying Fast was good, but it did not have the same effect as the original. Not necro at all. Commercial. Actual Color in the artwork( alot of Orange, i mean who cares if it's supposed to represent fucking Hell, Orange!) And Dani's vocals are horrible. And Midian is better than this crock of shit, and Damnation and a Day.....which should be Bitter Suites II, CRADLE OF FILTH NEED TO SIT DOWN! THIER 15 MINUTES OF FAME ARE BEYOND OVER!
