this is by far the best filth album out there....

Review by: chainsawgutfuck

Vempire is one of Cradle's best albums. It is THE definition of Vampiric Metal, Vampiric songs, vampiric atmosphere. It's everything! It's marvelous!! Dani's vocals by far the best Black Metal vocals ever! Nichola's drums are absolutely perfect, he's the best drum player ever! And the guitars and base, also smashing! Female vocals as well are very moody and the whole music takes me back to the vampire's times...
It's a must have in every collection!

WOW! This album is VERY strong thoughout, unfortunately, it's too short! 36 minutes isn't enough! Truely though, EVERY single blasted song in this album is as good as your average "best song" in any other album. I still like cruelty more, but.. but.. oh man.. I'm not sure if I would if this one was as long.. I support quality more than quantity, but in an album as a whole, that costs the same as the other, I don't really think this one deserves as much credit.

hahaha why did cacophony records waste money in releasing this mcd when they had bal-sagoth? oh yeh to make more money but after some fancy lighter work for me this just ended up as a very expensive ash tray, utter fucking bollocks!

For me this Vempire is a very very good album. But it´s very short. But here is the best song of Cradle Of Filth for me too. Queen of winter, throned.

Not bad! I was expecting a bigger performance by Cradle of Filth for this album but it did not happen. Too short, not as aggressive and brutal as "Principle" (except for The Rape and Ruin of Angels). The singing and the orchestration are probably the only two advantages over their debut.

Simply amazing. As a whole, the only thing to say about this album is 36 minutes were never filled better. Queen of Winter, Throned is simply fucking amazing. Bands like My Dying Bride and Enslaved always breach 10 minutes, but not without monotony. QoW,T is ten goddamn minutes of non-stop perfection. No boring repetition, just riff after riff, each with a different vocal, keyboard, drum and arrangement. Basically the song keeps you intrigued and suprises you by getting better and better. The rest of the album is incredible in the same respect. I don't know why hardcore metalheads trash CoF, because they are the best, even if they have a minute ammount of popularity. This the definition of vampiric, evil and ultimately perfect.

No one can pretend, that this album is shit! I find this album best of Cradle of Filth. The first three ("Ebony Dressed for Sunset", "The Forest Whispers My Name" and "Queen of Winter, Throned") are my favorites, like the last one. The only bad thing about this EP is that it's far too short! If it was 50 minutes long, I wouldn't be listening anything else. If you have a chance to get this, then god d*mn get it!!! Points achieved a total 95 out of 100.

Cradle of Filth - Vempire / Dark Faerytales in Phallustein
Released on Cacophonous Records in 1996.

When "The Principle of Evil Made Flesh" shocked me at first listening, this piece brings forth their unrevealed element, which they didn't use on TPOEMF. Their second opus is their best, and there's no doubt about it. If anyone mentions "Dusk ... and Her Embrace" here, I'll burst.

Their more symphonic approach to their music shows, what talents are hidden under those cool corpsepaints. I can't find any even slightly bad track from this album. "Ebony Dressed for Sunset" is the best intro Cradle of Filth has ever managed to compose (not to mention "Darkness Our Bride"). "The Forest Whispers My Name" only got better when recreated. The bad side of the old version was that it was too slow, and the whole mood was gone (only thing I liked it so much was the vocals and riffs). And I almost forgot, Dani's unheard style of dismal screaming is grrrreat! Also his satanic low-speaking vocals kicks the fuck out of me. "Queen of Winter, Throned" is the best song from this opus in my opinion. Its every second is inhuman, and the closing minute is pure musical orgasm! (I think Sarah gets her orgasm earlier this song.)

One might say that there's no brutality, what was heard in TPOEMF, well he's certainly wrong. The last chapter, "The Rape and Ruin of Angels (Hosannas in Extremis)" takes care of this albums primitivity and rawness. It is one of the best songs. Sarah's and Danielle's vocals are just perfect, the best ones ever. The shadows of dusk have reached their quota, in my opinion.

Music - 95
Lyrics - 94
Playing - 96
Vocalwork - 92
Production - 98

Overall - 95 out of 100.

throw on a couple more songs and this is the best COF album there is

Review by: msatan81

This is without doubt the best CoF album ever, The Forest Whispers My Name is so much better on this release than on Principle and Queen of Winter, Throned is such a killer.

The best black metal work by cradle of filth

Review by: Sventevith

Cradle of Filth may not be a "True" Black Metal band. They have their own style, and it's not always easy to categorize. But on this album, without a doubt their best, they show an impressive grasp of the Black Metal essentials. The atmosphere of this album is dark, beautiful and filled with sorrow. "Ebony Dressed for Sunset" and "Queen of Winter, Throned" are among the best Black Metal songs ever written!

This album created in Black Metal a new way followed by many others bands: insert vampire's tales in a black metal album. In 1995 Cradle Of Filth was a great band with new ideas and sense of creation of a new Black Metal.
They escape from True Black Metal but it isn't a weakness.
I'm sad that Cradle Of Filth use their image to create less extreme music because V Empire was their best album, then Dusk.....And Her Embrace. Others albums are less technical and vocals are .... no comment for too many songs.
If you would just one of Cradle Of Filth's disc: you must buy this album, it was a real revolution

Did not get the point about the lenght on this album...36 minutes? er...so what? I think it's perfect the way it is, yes, with 36 minutes lenght... something geniously well executed...a must have..!

Review by: vampyric

The problem with this album is that it is NOT 36 mins. Actually, it's even smaller! 'The Forest Whispers my Name' is NOT a new song, so the real duration is hardly 30 mins! And 30 mins may be enough for thrash classics such as 'Reign in Blood', but for atmospheric black metal, where the songs are slower and larger, is not. Just think that 'Vempire' contains half the songs than the classic of Slayer (if you exclude 'The Forest Whispers my Name', which, as I said, is not a new song).
As for the music: 6 great vampiric black metal hymns that travel you to other dimensions, full of dark erotism and blood rituals. The ultimate balance of extremity, dark atmosphere and melody.
Well done once again, mr. Dani! And you still had so much more to say... It was written in books of fate that with your 2-3 next releases your band will become the most famous (or the most infamous for others...) in the black metal scene.

Definitly the best C.o.F´s album, including (as far as I can see in other Reviews) the best song they´ve made: Queen... Far away from Black Metal or true Black Metal or any other genre, this is one of the best METAL albums ever: instrumentation, production, lyrics, kicking ass musicians, atmospheric voices (for me, "atmospheric" is when a voice, in this case, takes you from the abyss to a massive orgiastic rapture... Sarah, I Love You, Dani, when I grow up, I want to be like you), all conjugate in a perfect Vampiric spawn...
As a vocalist, I can say that Dani´s voice has the highest levels, and its very difficult to reach it...
Hail C.o.F´s Master piece!! Satanic Tiranny!!!

all these fucks wondering why this cd was short... ITS A FUCKING EP.. and unicorn i used thise piece of shit as an ashtray as well... (as with every other COF cd) you posing cunts need to put a gun to your feeble little brains and pull the fucking trigger.. face it COF are a disgrace to the Metal scene.. THEY ARE NOT BLACK METAL get over it

Review by: BlackMetalBrad

It was great to see COF move away from the confines of "Black Metal" as such and do something different. And it really works to my mind this is the best cradle work they have done. The turn towards Gothic/vampire metal is much more suited to them. The music is more technical, there is a touch of melody and the vocals really matured. If your yet to hear this go and grab it even for the track "Queen of winter throned" which sits as the best cradle track ever.

This is just an EP, and the first time I heard it, I have to say, is was really, really good, and I couldn’t believe it was an EP, because when you listen to this EP, it seams almost an album, is perfect, you have here, “queen of winter, throne” is the biggest in this album, 10minuts of pure, black metal, you also hear, a woman, speaking in form of spell, it just, makes you, go crazy. Believe me… is this wasn’t an EP… I would this, this is the best album that cradle ever did, or will ever do… this is a true masterpiece…

I'm really tired of hearing about "This is not Black Metal", "The true Black metal is Norwegian", shut up!!!, every Band got his own sound and style, in short... which is the "real Black Metal" must to be?, can you say me??, I am a Blackmetaler, and I see all kind of BM... Limbonic Art and Melesech plays about Egyptian Mythologic, Rotting Christ are from Greece... then, are they not "true Black Metal"?, not only Norwegian Bands are Black Metal. I'm into Nordic mythologic, and of course into Norwegian Black Metal, one of my favorites bands are Satyricon and Emperor, but I also like, of course... Cradle of Filth... I don't mind if they eat hamburguers or smoke marijuana, for me... COF is just Black Metal, and VEMPIRE is one of the best fucking Black Metal Masterpiece that I ever heard, just perfect... 30 minutes is enough for a magnific band shows what they are... just listen "the rape and ruin of angels", these is not Black metal?... came on... open your ears and your heart... and enter to fantastic lands of beauty darkness... greats...

"Ebony dressed for sunset" is a nice opener.
"Queen of winter throned" has a few moments.
All of the other stuff is typical COF, not so good in my opinion.

Review by: Hardboiled

All this vampiric they started on this EP was a huge mistake to me. But I'm sure they've earned lots of $$$ thanks to it. Their music doesn't bother me anymore although I consider 'Principle..' a highest top sympho metal album of all the times.

Review by: manos

this was great, though, i personally think there is no point in putting an instrumental in a 6 song e.p. the songs are really good and are recorded alot better than princaple of evil.

Review by: shnaz

This album is a huge turning point for the band in terms of sound and song writing. Everysong is great and original in its own right. The classic COF sound is now quite apparent. Although this is considered an EP, it definitely feels more like a shorter full length COF album. I love it.
"Queen of Winter, Throned" is my favorite.
