First review, so bear with me here.

Dark Tranquillity continues where "Damage Done" left off with their new CD "Character". Whilst it keeps the same style as "Damage Done" and "Haven", this features some of their most aggressive work in years (e.g. 'The New Build', 'Through Smudged Lenses' & 'The Endless Feed') whilst maintaining the same core Dark Tranquillity sound (i.e. it won't leave you craving for a return to the old style, like certain other Swedish metal acts).

Overall the album quality is very good. Stainne's vocals sound more raspy and aggressive this time round, with the lyrics written with the level of maturity and thought we've come to expect. There seems to be a better balance this time round between melody and heaviness, which should please those who felt 'Damage Done' to be a little too mellow.

There is only one weak song - 'Mind Matters' - , but whereas some many not like the somewhat experimental 'Am I 1?', the album is consistent in its delivery. The sound quality is very good as well.

With In Flames effectively abandoning the death metal genre and Soilwork sounding more like a hardcore band, Dark Tranquillity continue to refine their sound without the need to radically change their image, sound or target audience.

I recommend this to those who enjoyed 'Damage Done' or
'Haven'.

8/10

The digipak comes with the film clip to 'Lost to Apathy' as well as some live clips.

Great!! Dark tranguillity has done it! After all this years, after all those albums they present an album which is as exciting as hell!
In comparison with previous albums ‘Character’ is harder than ‘Haven’ and ‘Damage done’. The blast beats are back, but the great melodic riffs and multiple layers still remain more important. The balance between guitars and keyboard is great. The keyboards gives the music it's depth and a fresh sound. Their single ‘lost to apathy’ is a great example of character. Melodic and powerful.
The structure of the last song ‘My Negation’ is really great. It starts slow and won’t be as fast as the rest, but the two guitars are playing great and strange riffs.
If you like their previous album, you surely will like this one. For me it’s the perfection of the line of ‘Haven and Damage done’ with the fresh hard sound that ‘The gallery’ once introduced.
For all those Gothenburg fans: In flames burned out and Dark Tranquillity is back.

One of the best dt's albums ever... recommended to all the fans of melodic death metal!
The new built, through smudged lenses, the endless feed, LOST TO APATHY, One Thought, Am I 1? are MASTERPIECES!!!
No more in flames, soilwork or others...only dark tranquillity play Melodic Death (Fucking) metal in 2005
