Your Review:

this is the new album from the masters of doom. I was expecting something really good, and they didnt failed me at all. It's what they were trying to create in the light and the dreadful hours. in fact, in my opinion this is their best album since turn loose the swans.
the voice: aaron's singing voice is much more softer now, wich makes it even more melancholic and depressive. the growls sometimes sound abit distorted.
all the songs got a really depressing athmosphere. what turn loose the swans had in violins, this one has it in keyboards and the athmosphere.
the songs:
the wreckage of my flesh: this is the song I wanted to hear the most. it's the most epic song of the entire album. the beggining reminds me of lord of the rings, when they show mordor and the orcs or whatever. I think this song is more funeral doom than the others.
the scarlet garden: this one has a cool intro, it goes heavy in the middle
catherine blake: here aaron tells a story about someone apparently called catherine blake. I love this song
my wine in silence: this is the slowest and most athmosphering song of the album. and possibly my dying bride's most comercial song ever, but that's not bad
the prize of beaty: this is my fav song from the album, it starts heavy and then goes slow. this song will have a video from what I heard. I love the line "for once please god help me believe in you"
the blue lotus: this song is really strange and it's the song I like the least from this album. it's still really good
and my fury stands ready: havent paid much attention to this one. but it has a really haunting piano
a doomed lover: I think this one should have been called sear me IV, it's really romantic and beatiful

overall: the best album since turn loose the swans. really worth listening

10/10

Outstanding! Unbeliveble! It's hard for me to say but (at least in my opinion) Songs of Darkness, Words of Light is the best My Dying Bride album ever. I thought it was impossible but theses guys made a album much more emotional than ever. The songs truly evoke feelings to the listener. Porminence for The Wreckage of my Flesh, My Wine in Silence and A Doomed Lover. All My Dying Bride Albums touched me but this one went further proving to be a true voyage through the human soul, passing by strong feelings like love, hate, trust and fear. I give it a 10 out of 10.
Go get it. You will be crushed.

This album is great! The best since 1995! Melancholic, sad, with a lot of great feelings. Is one of the best MDB's CD's for me (the rest is "Turn Loose the Swans" and "Angel and the Dark River).
Absolutly you must have that album!

As My Dying Bride made this new album, i was waiting for it eagerly, and finally when i got it, and listened to it, i really found it much more better than i expected, this album is such a masterpiece, the sound quality is great, and the songs are marvellous, except The Blue Lotus and My Fury Stands Ready, i find them all outstanding, i dont like those 2 tracks as much as the others.. i like the first 4 tracks, than the other 4, except A Doomed Lover, which is a great track, but it need to be heard more than once to get what the hell is going on. great melodies on Catherine Blake and My Wine in Silence.. a great album really, i rate it 10/10 , a must buy for any true My Dying Bride fan

I can't believe how could they make it again. I'm glad I bought a Limited Edition BOX from this cd..cause this album simply kicks ass...

Well, as a long time MDB listener I must say that they didn't go wrong with this one.
Little dark, slightly pressuring atmosphere. Great work.

fucking great album, the only thing i can say is that i wish some of the songs were longer like the old albums, otherwise badass album

Fucken fantastic album, great guitars, aaron sings great, and the double bass is bad ass, one more classic from the gods of doom metal

Great, another album of the gods. For this time I expected something more experimental that the two previous albums, but SODWOL is not actually very experimental, and I think it's inferior to those albums.
Many people say that the music is not easy to listen, and I agree, there aren't many opener songs out there like 'the Wreckage of my Flesh', slow and repetitive with a nice atmosphere.
'The Scarlet Garden' is not a bad song, but too weak for MDB, it would fit better in a EP :o).
The first part of 'Catherine Blake' is brilliant, but at the end is a bit boring, Andrew was not very inspired this time.
'My wine in silence' is nice, specially the first part, a cool quiet song before 'The prize of beauty', good one with more aggressive sound, one of the best without doubt.
At this time the album sounds OK and promising, but the next songs aren't that great. 'The Blue Lotus' has strange lyrics and boring riffs, and the '...Fury stands again' song is not too interesting, some cool passages and nothing more.
And well, the last song 'A doomed Lover', romantic, epic and a great ending, nice !!!!
The best one of the album, another good album of MDB, however it's time to break with the post-violin era sound and look for more amazing riffs and sinister atmospheres.

Welcome back the doom-death metal gods!Unbelievable album.....

This is their best cd yet. I like how Aaron incorporates Black Metalish vocals into this cd. It's awesome. I love this cd especially Catherine Blake.

This doesn't quite do it for me.
Now I'm a big fan of doom metal. So naturally I looked forward to MDB's new album. However I think that this album doesn't really go anywhere. It's like MDB has hit a standstill with this album. I don't think that there is anything new in this album really, and the songs doesn't really sound that good. I wouldn't really recommend this album at all.
Too bad because I am a fan of MDB.

it is possible to get perfection? i tought mdb already did it before but i was wrong!!! how can be possible to create music in this level? when you think they´re in the higuest possible level, they release this master piece... mdb is always dying but never dies

this album is pretty average. i like the atmosphere and vocals but the songs are slightly dull and boring. this has been the first time iv heard 'my dying bride' and i expected more. the fans seem to love it. but for newcomers who prefer much more lively music try cradle of filth or arch enemy or something.

sorry about this people, but i have to re-review this. as i said listening to this album and the band my dying bride for the first time, i found it to be quite boring. but keep listening to it and this keeps you hooked on it like a mother fucker. a fuckin great album that i listen to pretty much all of the time. one weird thing is though, it kinds of makes you contemplate suicide. i was really depressed one day, and as i was listening to this thoughts of suicide went through my head. anyways i dont care if its suicidal, cus its awesome. my three favourite tracks are 'the wreckage of my flesh', 'catherine blake', 'my wine in silence' and 'the prize of beauty'.

Review by: morbz

A classic, I would expect nothing less of MDB. Probably Aaron's best vocal performance.

tonight i have finished my best painting ... the biggest, deepest, stongest one i ever painted... it calls "my wine in silence" and born inside of me under the godlike sound of MDB...i am listenin to them since 1993 ...i could never dream after 12 years they will rise again in true ENLIGHTMENT of SODWOL...
