Turn Loose the Swans is a GREAT album. My Dying Bride worked very well on it. It has heavy doom guitars, a very depressive vocal which Aaron does very well. He fits his vocals in the songs perfectly, and alternates from gutural to clean vocals, which makes it even prettier. As always, Martin's violin kills me with its perfection and sometimes a bit of agression. The keyboards are perfect too. And the songs Sear Me and Black God are great. Zena's vocals interspersed with Aaron's vocals are a perfect combination.
The drums are also a great instrumental part of MDB's music. It all makes a whole. This My Dying Bride's album is complete in every way.

I could possibly write a whole book about this album, but I try to make it short. This is the saddest Metal album ever! Although there´s much aggression in it ("Snow In My Hand", "Your River"), this CD creates an atmosphere of depression, hopelessness and sorrow like no other. Gorgeous, heavy, incredible one.

This album is by all means a doom classic.
a must have for any metal fan.

I got this CD today, 6/13/04, and I have to say it's MDB's most darkest work. It's slower than usual, and his guttural vocals are more 'deeper' if thats the word for it. Indeed it is depressing, but lovely as well. The songs aren't as melodic note-wise, but the guitars still do the usual scale like work. This is a good cd, but not my favorite by them. I got the digi pack version, which is fun, the live version of "Your Shameful Heaven", a song which is from one of my favorite MDB cd's (The Angel and the Dark River), is fantastic, along with the other extras. Highlights in my opinion: "Sear Me MCMCX III", "Your River", "The Snow In My Hand", "Black God", and if you get the digi pack, all of the extras.
7.5/10

Depressive, Melodic, and Pure Doom! This is Doom Metal at its clearest forms, MDB managed to do it and release a full doom-destructive bomb to blow at the Doom metal scene. it is one of the finest cd at my humble collection and offcourse, at any metal-head's collection. if you really are into doom metal and you did not listen to this masterpiece yet, it is highly recommened, and it never looses its glow either, though it was released about 11 years ago, but its still glowing like a bright diamond on both, my cd collection and my hard drive. its deep music and clear vocals by Aaron really make it special and my best tracks of this masterpiece are:

Sear Me MCMXCIII
The Crown Of Sympathy
Black God

Definately a must buy for any doom metal head..

Without question the second best doom metal album made.

This is pure magic. From the first piano chords you know this is something special and when the violons start... ahhhhhhh..... "Pour yourself, Into me......."
The clean vocals are the depiction of pain through sounds, and as the songs progress the strong death-metal styled vocals show up_very powerful and fiting the mood perfectly. Dark and eerie layered guitars (Both highly distorted and clean) create the harmonies for this masterpiece. they're also used as leads, but when the violons play those melodies on top of the rich harmonies of the distorted grunting guitars, something deep inside you screams and shakes. Every time I listen to these songs I feel the shivers down my spine. The beats constantly vary from painfully slow beats to sometimes up-beat tempos, always evolving and constantly addidng different fills using the double-kickers and toms. The sound effects are used very intelligently_ Listen to the middle part of the title track(Which is btw the best song imo).
Approach this album with caution as it will numb your senses and will have u hypnotized for the full length every time u pop it in...And did I mention.... Some of the most amazingly poetic lyrics are to be found here...
This is a masterpiece for anyone seeking modern doom metal at its best...
