GEEENNNIIUSSSSS
Storming Record

Review by: Vanguard

Hail Slayer!!! Killer debut, true metal. Very influential to many BM/DM bands today. Quality could have been a little better, but that's only a minor comparison flaw. Picks: "Black Magic", "Face The Slayer/Metalstorm", "Fight Till Death"

9.5/10

Is that corpsepaint I see in the band pics? YYYEEESSS!!! See? This is what Slayer really was all about - blasphemy, torture, and youthful fucking aggression that made one go fucking berserk when the music was blasted at levels that would make nuns' ears bleed and priests kneel in a pathetic attempt to prepare themsleves for an imaginary fairyland. Now the old coots are married with families. Pretty sad...

An awesome debut, to say the least. The guitar sound is the BEST Slayer ever had, with its extremely crunchy, dirty, and loud tone. Drumming is quite simple, not as many blasts as would appear on following Slayer releases such as Haunting The Chapel, Hell Awaits, and Reign In Blood, which tends to make the music sound rather Heavy Metal at times (that's not necessarily bad, but it's not as aggressive as it could be). My favourite track is still Black Magic - it's the darkest sounding song on the whole album, period. Other classics such as Evil Has No Boundaries (killer chorus!) and Die By the Sword make this album worth buying, even if the other tracks are just filler. Now, don't get me wrong, every song on here is well-executed and memorable, but I feel that they lack that special "something" that the other three have. That missing "something" ends up making them sound like leftover tracks from rehearsals when the Slayer horde were still teenagers, blithering drunk, and listening to too much Judas Priest.

"EVUHHHHHLLL!!!! My words defy...
EVUHHHHHLLL!!!! Has no disguise...
EVUHHHHHLLL!!!! Will take your soul...
EVUHHHHHLLL!!!! My wrath unfolds!!!"

"Stike of twelve, raise the dead, the chapel comes under attack!"

Very thin guitar sound, ridiculous cover painting, very bad guitar-solos, but this album is true cult!!!

Slayer's debut album was 1983 the fastest album in the world and had many band-classics on it: "Black Magic", "The Antichrist", "Evil has no boundaries", "Die by the sword", "Fight til' death" and and and...

For these early times, when it appeared: a strong album and today always a classic.
