Midnight Odyssey
Biolume Part 1 - In Tartarean Chains

1. Hidden in Tartarus

For centuries, the last of the wandering
Bodies within the stars
Was but a tiny flicker
Its secret, its grandeur
Hidden for so long to the eyes
Of mortals below

Layers of ice and layers of cloud
Orbit around
The true nature of your past
Is hidden in Tartarus

Oh burning titan, so far from the sun
Your glow is feint to the eyes of men
Oh slumbering giant, sixth from our star
Your past is feint to the minds of men
Oh deposed ruler, so long since your rule
Your son sits bright in the hearts of gods
Once mighty king, bringer of the golden age
No age shall be so great in the folly of men

Postquam Saturno tenebrosa in Tartara misso
sub Iove mundus erat, subiit argentea proles,
auro deterior, fulvo pretiosior aere
(Ovid, Metamorphoses, Bk 1, 115)

(After Saturn had been banished to the dark land of death,
and the world was under the say of Jove, the silver race came in,
lower in the scale than gold, but of greater worth than yellow brass)

Oh mighty harvester, a god so bountiful
Your radiance brought wealth to gods
Oh wretched leader, driven mad by prophecy
Your children brought war to the realm of gods
Oh besieged emperor, your army
Were banished to the prison of gods
Oh ancient entity, you’ve been usurped
Your kingdom is left to the deeds of men

2. Forever Silenced

I wake, from travelling through the voids
In darkness, this land before my eyes
So barren, lifeless and formless
I know not of where I am

The expansive night sky grows ever cooler
This world must I now call home?
An endless plain of dust and soil
The sense of exile now slowly dawns

World unholy, mankind’s folly
Banish me and here I’ll remain
Time will pass by, left here to die
My soul burns as the wind devours
The wind devours…

Chains unholy, minds ignore me
Punish me and here I’ll remain
Stars will pass by, far in the sky
My soul burns as I reach the end

Fallen, I wear the eternal mask of desolation
Chosen, to be cast aside, and forever silenced

Burdened, to be made a wanderer, between the worlds
Undone, the bonds that united flesh and soul

World unholy, mankind’s folly
Banish me and here I’ll remain
Time will pass by, left here to die
My soul burns as the wind devours

3. Biolume

I look to the stars and I see the moonlight, it guides me to a path
What once was soil, now crawls with nightlife, hell worms, vines and spores
Their darkened bodies reflect all the moonlight and illuminate the way
In the midst of night the world comes alive, and I don’t feel so alone

Come light the way
A forbidden place
No eyes should see
Hidden far beneath
An inner glow
A poisoned growth
Mesmerized, they lead
I follow

The flickers of the light, form and dance around me, I traverse willingly
I can see the torn remnants of vines, an overgrowth of waste
They feast in a frenzy, consuming their fill, consumed soon themselves
Am I just the awestruck prey to the beasts of lunar decay

'Come with me, dance to the light in the gloom’
Sings a voice so ancient
‘Come to me, come for the sun rises soon,
He will hunt you too’

The silver moonlight, dims and fades away, to an ominous hue
Sanguine, vermilion, the land is stained, and the creatures writhe in pain
Moans of agony, like wails upon the wind, seep from the ground below
The lights have faded, and the path has come to a shadowed end

'Come with me, dance to the light in the gloom’
Sings a voice so ancient
‘Come to me, come for the sun rises soon,
He will hunt you too’
‘Hide from him, hide from his light, its your doom’
Sings a voice so shaken
‘Come to me, come for the sun rises soon,
He will hunt you too’

4. A Storm Before a Fiery Dawn

Heavens on fire
The sunder of the sky
The goddess of moonlight
Her fury now unleashed
I know not, this anger
So mighty, and vengeful
The night winds, grow monstrous
A furious call beckons them forth

A storm before
A fiery dawn
A burning haze
A fire reborn

Oh lunar queen
What is this madness?
What is this infernal storm?
What shattered your serenity, what clawed at your soul?

Are you the one who called to me?
Are you the one who beckoned me?
Are you the one who, are you the one who,
Are you the one who summoned me?
Are you the one who’s hunting me?
Are you the one who’s threatening me?
Are you the one who, are you the one who,
Are you the one who’s luring me?

Oh lunar queen
Why do you cower
Now that the sun’s returning?
Is his radiance, the source of your craze?

Is he the one who called to me?
Is he the one who beckoned me?
Is he the one who, is he the one who,
Is he the one who summoned me?
Is he the one who’s hunting me?
Is he the one who’s threatening me?
Is he the one who, is he the one who,
Is he the one who’ll devour me?

5. Of Golden Age Descended

In shadows, a stairwell
Whose trail mysteriously descends
A large stone entrance
An opening in depths yet revealed

Majestic, yet humbled
Withered, but sturdy he stands there
A Giant, in stature
Of golden age descended, a lost heir
A ruler banished
His silver chains weaken his old bones
Time and age immemorial
His name long forgotten, now unknown

A prison well hidden
A world removed, so far away
No mortal shall remember
No god shall fear or tremble

Majestic, emboldened
Strengthened and firm he rises tall
A giant, who bellows
An ancient prayer awakens and remembers
A proud god, imprisoned
His tarnished chains loosen and crumble
Escaping his prison
The sky long forgotten, the moonlight...

6. When Titans Fall

When titans fall, they leave a deafening void of maniacal desire
And quickly the rats that are mortals, scurry to take their share, a lair of filth
A never ending web of scum remains, the age that is left is one of despair

In time long ago, men would revere his name, and bow down in praise
He brought upon an age of wonder, and a deeper understanding of the universe

All beings knew their place, and never strayed from their mortal destiny
But God’s, like men, grow jealous and thirst something that is more

And all that is left of an old god, withers away in solitary gloom
A growing resentment of those he meant to rule burns inside
The past comes back and will haunt those who choose to forget
The blood on the fools hand can never stay hidden forever

7. Pillars in the Sky

As night calls upon me
A frozen shade, crawls beside me
I can sense the ever distant glowing light
But I cannot help to feel I’ve lost

I had hope, I had plenty of fire
Here in the middle of the falling universe
I was the hand in the sculpting of all life
But I cannot help to think it’s over

I will never call your name
I will never look up high
As soon as the full moon sings at dark

I would never wish you harm
I would never be that one
As soon as the light reveals my faults

I could never break the vow
I could never leave it all
As soon as the angels sang alone

I will always walk the path
I will always know your voice
As soon as the shadow stalks above

And the cold chill surrounds me
And the winds blow softly
On the air I can hear the horns of time
They are blowing, marching into my mind

I am old, I will surely soon expire
The stars are watching from their distant astral realm
I was a god, I stood on pillars in the sky
But they crumbled beneath a burden
