Staring at an empty city for days and days on end
Thoughts travel so fast, they don’t make any sense
Terror settling in, oh it’s getting comfortable you see
Suddenly all stands still and the clamour rises

I don’t know how much longer I can take this
It grows on me, it feeds on me
And it makes everything else seem so damn futile

Can you hear it? Please tell me you can
I cannot face another sleepless night
My blood is pumping, the air is thick and warm
Expecting the world to crack wide open

The skies will soon be torn to shreds
Venomous liquid pouring from the heavens
An immense void and the thought-erasing uproar
Down on my knees, arms across my head

The noise is getting nearer, reality fading away
I don’t want you to hide, I want you right here by my side
You can’t miss the final show, don’t you dare leaving me now
I’ve been waiting so long, this is my deliverance
Confused, why is there only silence?
Defused, still waiting for the revelation

No one left to keep me company
Hysterically laughing until my stomach hurts
Breathing without air, bleeding without blood
This is where sanity ends and life begins

For emperor and nation!

I thank thee for this sacred mission
I thank thee for a radiant demise
Ostracized, last night in solitude
My fate is sealed, I’ve offered my life

All my brothers volunteered
Those who can’t fly out are silently crying
This death is the most glorious of all
No tears, no regrets but tremendous pride

This is the gateway to eternity (as ready as can be)
Just enough fuel for a one-way flight (tragic end in sight)
No return is planned any time soon (my plane is my tomb)
Whatever happens, you will never see me again

Glorious and ephemeral like our cherry blossom
Last prayers, last poems and my sword close to me
No words, no goodbyes, whole lives in a single glance
Solemn ceremony honouring the departed
Those who stay bow down, their eyes facing the ground
We belong to the gods, we’ll shine through eternity
May my ancestors be proud, may my name be remembered
Wandering amidst the clouds, I await my destiny

A whole generation conceding life with a smile
Beautiful children forming a human wall
We are the last resort forcing the desperate wonder
Mimicking the divine storm centuries ago
Our enemies will conquer a broken and soulless land
Target in sight, I shout and pray to triumph

For this abomination

Stay right here in the darkness

Close the door on a treasure
An endangered species

Can’t show her the outside world
It kills me to imagine her
Thrown like a sheep in this atrocity

Forget the solitude, the crushing fear
The past erased, all hopes allowed

I’ve never felt this way
Anguish and desperation, dreadful freedom
Floating away from rescue, lips sealed and lungs empty
I was wrong to think some hidden truth would unravel
So utterly and painfully wrong
Consciousness evaporates, before me stands a tragic, colossal beauty
I used to stand for nothing, I meant nothing
But can you see me now?

I dissolve into the stars
I exit in a blaze of glory

Everything I have ever wanted
It was all just my imagination
Now I am what I have always been
A particle of nothingness, lost and alone
Forever among the stars
Forever within the immeasurable


6. Sunken Cities

A brand new humanity, the quintessential man
An elite stripped of all the flaws from the past

The previous breed is extinguished
No one remembers, no one cares
Yet in the black oceans they’ve found a city
Long forgotten, extravagant beast

Mesmerized by its size and beauty
They explore the dead metropolis
Outrageous wealth, endless towers and avenues
The monster which carried thousands in its womb
Now lays soulless in its eternal tomb
A testimony of a glorious yet corrupted past
Nevermore

It should have stayed just a memory
Now it’s breathing out a black venom
They can’t see the danger, they are blinded
This is the beginning of a new extinction


7. The Vlasov Notes

August 1946
They couldn’t make us admit
Let them put an end to this misery

Used to be a national hero, they believed I could turn the tide
Used to be considered the only hope there is left
I couldn’t trust my homeland, forced to turn my back on my past
Couldn’t stand the red plague, my country in agony

Spat on, humiliated, trialled as shameful traitors
Truth is we were the ones Mother Russia has abandoned
Caught in a crossfire, distrusted or condemned
A constant fear of having to fight our brothers to death

Retreat, surrender
War is over, tables have turned
Seeking a way out
Running west for a safe haven

Miraculously ran into
(there can be no safe haven)
The right enemy, oh tears of joy
(for us there’s no peace or future in sight)

(Remorseless) Seems we have no friends left in this world
(Betrayal) No hope left, terrifying future in sight
(Guilt and shame) My men sent to starve with wife and kids
(Endurance) Even under torture we shall stay strong

True to ourselves, too honest to survive
At least we know what killed us
The world should prepare for what’s coming


8. Coda

Good riddance and good luck
This pathetic scenery is finally rounding off
We’ve had our share of ups and downs
Yet who haven’t we deceived in the end?

The masses are growing and feasting
No pride, no morals and no guilt
We won’t even perish for a reason
It all comes down to a self-imposed implosion

I feel relieved, I can sense a closure
Human arrogance obliterating ignorance
The childish desire to master all that breathes

Refuting mortality
Where did we lose all glory?
Diluting mentality
How did pride become so miserable?

Past heroes are put to shame
Conquests soiled, greatness forgotten
Erasing the past, blurring the future
An immense confusion, a numbing chaos
Pathetic search for a dignified exit
We’re ready to be put down like a sick horse
Destroying the world, merciless eradication
I feel relieved, the sanctioning hour has come

Take this life and bury it with all the others
We had it all, we burned it all
My hands are cold, my heart is pumping
But I can’t help smiling upon this blessed extinction
